Cultivating friendship can be a difficult task; sometimes relationships go flawlessly and other times the road can get a bit rocky. I believe that some friendships are meant to be temporary, certain people will come and go in your life and that's okay. It's very natural that as time wares on people change, choose different paths, and sometimes just grow apart as common interests fade. While many friendships come and go there is redemption in the fact that there are a select few that will last a lifetime
These days there is pressure on everyone to have a lot of friends. It's like if you aren't surrounded by a crowd 24/7 you're made to feel unsuccessful or that your life is pathetic. I think this subliminal societal pressure is part of the reason why so many people have trouble establishing healthy, lasting friendships. They have spent so much of their lives "friending" like their life is Facebook that they have missed out on the point of friendship altogether.
When you truly cultivate your circle of friends you have time to focus on being a real friend to each and every one.
Personally, with each year that passes I realize that my motto when it comes to friendship is "Less is so much More." You don't need a ton of friends to be happy and successful, you need a few - maybe even just one! - that you can count on no matter what.
"Remember, you don't need a certain number of FRIENDS, just a number of friends you can be certain of." - Unknown
