BACKLESS FLOWER PRINT DRESS
FASHION
THE BLACK FOREST. NORTH BAY ON, CANADA.
I have always been fascinated by photography. To me there is something so magical about how one can capture a moment in time and share it with others. While cameras and photographic equipment have improved significantly over the years I've always felt that it's the person behind the lens who creates the real magic.
Several people have photographed me for the purpose of this blog and one of them happens to be my older sister Stephanie, a.k.a The Cultivated Lens. Steph tured twenty-eight yesterday so I thought it was only fitting that I talk a little bit about the person behind so many of my photos - for which I receive a lot of compliments.
Steph has been shooting for Beauty Spot off and on for about nine months and it's an adventure each and every time. Whether we are trekking through knee-deep snow in frigid temperatures or almost falling into muddy swamps on humid summer days there is never a dull moment. Everyone who meets my sister for the first time always comments on how hilarious she is and it's often the case #nofilter. I find this really lends itself to her skills as a photographer. If you're one of those people who is really uncomfortable having your photo taken she's your girl as her personality and humour help you feel more at ease.
Having collaborated with her for so many shoots one thing that continues to stand out to me is her ability to communicate with her subject(s) - she tells me exactly where to stand, where the light is, if my hair is out of place, etc. In my opinion when standing in front of the lens it's important to receive a lot of direction from the photographer and its something I really appreciate. We've all seen photos where moments appear fake or overly staged which brings me to another strength that Stephanie posesses as a photographer; the ability to make a moment appear organic and natural even if it is posed or staged. I like to call her the "queen of candids."
When you have a blog that hinges on quality photography it's pretty cool when you know someone who is passionate about it as well. Steph frequently relays what she's learning with me and as her portfolio continues to expand I can see her skill blossoming. As she promised it would (and shared her copy with me!), Lightroom has literally changed my #bloglife and I love it when she shares her tips and tricks for more efficient and beautiful editing with me.
While we've had our ups and downs (as sisters so often do), I love my sister very much and I wanted to take the special opportunity of her birthday to let her know how much I appreciate her help and support of my blog. Whether she's giving me hand-me-downs, texting me to tell me she liked my latest post, or of course taking my photo, it all means a lot.
Steph I think you're a fantastic photographer and I know all of your clients would agree! Happy belated birthday! xo
How adorable is my little neice Katalina?! She decided to skip her afternoon nap and join us on this photoshoot. Turns out she is quite the little model herself! #cutenessoverload

About the outfit:
This is the perfect little dress to usher out the last of summer's humid days. My favourite features are the colourful floral print and the scooped-out back, both of which make it fun, feminine, and flattering.
I picked this dress up on sale at a Stitches outlet store for just five dollars! I loved it so much that I bought it in two other prints as well - can you blame me?
I chose to pair this dress with silver and white dangly earrings, my rhinestone encrusted ring (on repeat), a white manicure, and sparkly silver shoes - I call them my Cinderella shoes.
My husband bought them for me for Christmas two years ago and I feel like every woman needs a pair of sparkly shoes in her life. Honestly it sounds super corny but buy yourself a pair and you are guaranteed to feel like a princess every time you wear them. #itsthelittlethingsinlife
Here's to another week of keeping it simple fashion-wise on Beauty Spot. The warm weather shows little sign of letting up so it'll probably be a few more weeks until I'll be posting my first fall fashion post. There is a menswear look I've already put together that I think you're going to love!
Hope you enjoyed this week's look! If you have any ideas or requests for trends that you would like to see, be sure to leave a comment below or send me a message! xo
